Apple drop Bing for Google

Apple have decided to go ahead and drop Bing for Siri's under the hood searches in iOS and macOS. The change will directly affect Siri and what used to be known as 'Spotlight' (now called 'Search') on iOS and Spotlight on macOS. Google was already being used as the default search in Safari.

Techcrunch reported:

“Switching to Google as the web search provider for Siri, Search within iOS and Spotlight on Mac will allow these services to have a consistent web search experience with the default in Safari,” an Apple statement reads. “We have strong relationships with Google and Microsoft and remain committed to delivering the best user experience possible.”

Microsoft is still confident of it's search technology which remains at the heart of companies such as Amazon, AOL, and Yahoo. Their statement said, “As we move forward, given our work to advance the field of AI, we’re confident that Bing will be at the forefront of providing a more intelligent search experience for our customers and partners.”

Let's hope that Apple and Google's relationship doesn't go South again as previously occurred during the feud over Google Maps being dropped for Apple's in-house developed Maps app.

The search results that now come from Google occur only when the device’s built-in search feature—Siri, Search, or Spotlight—can’t answer a question or query and must provide web results (which can include videos).

This move is likely to have a big affect on Bing's search usage share, which already was not top of the pile...
